Dr. Samuel Oke Ogunniyi
Dr. Samuel Oke Ogunniyi attended Saint Finian’s Catholic Primary School, Ute from 1972 to 1978 and had his secondary education in Ute High School, Ute, Ondo State from 1978 to 1983. He started his career as Clerical Officer in the National Council for Arts and Culture, Iganmu, Lagos in June 19, 1984. Between 1988 and 1990, he attended University of Ibadan where he obtained his Diploma in Librarianship (DLS).
Dr. Ogunniyi was transferred from Lagos and worked at the National Council for Arts and Culture Abuja Headquarters, Kaduna and Osogbo Zonal Offices respectively.
Moreover, Dr. Ogunniyi obtained BLIS, MLIS, Ph.D from the Department of Library, Archival and Information Studies, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Oyo State in 2004, 2006 and 2015 respectively. In 2010, he obtained Postgraduate Diploma in Education from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State. In year 2007, Dr. Ogunniyi was employed as Librarian 1 in Adeyemi College of Education (now Adeyemi Federal University of Education), Ondo, Ondo State. He worked in Serials, Reference, Project, E-Library, Cataloguing and Classification Sections of the Library. While in Adeyemi College of Education Dr. Ogunniyi served in the following Committees: Demonstration Secondary School Board, Adeyemi College of Education COEASU Journal Committee, Student’s Disciplinary Committee (SDC), Secretary, ACE COEASU Review Committee on Code of Ethics, Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), and College Information and Communication Technology Committee among others.
Career Progression
On April 8, 2021, Dr. Ogunniyi was appointed the Pioneer Polytechnic Librarian, Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Oyo State. To his credit, Dr. Ogunniyi has received the following awards: Best Documentation Staff in the National Council for Arts and Culture in 1991 and 1992: Gustav Hofmann Study Grant, organized by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), Netherlands in 1993, and Prof. M. I. Ajibero Award for the Best Ph.D Thesis in Nigerian Library Schools in 2015 which was presented by the Nigerian Library Association (NLA) during the 2016 NLA Annual Conference in Abuja.
A seasoned writer, Dr. Ogunniyi has published over fifty journal/articles in both local and international journals including some that appear in Google Scholar and Scopus. Besides, He has co-authored three books, edited one librarianship book, published seven articles in conference proceedings, and presented more than fifteen papers in local and international conferences.
Dr. Ogunniyi’s areas of research interest include Organization of Knowledge (Cataloguing and Classification), Academic, School, and Public Libraries, ICT in Library and Information Science. Dr. Ogunniyi served as Vice Chairman, Nigerian Library Association, Ondo State Chapter from March 29, 2018 to June 2021.
