About us
The Agricultural Technology Department is an academic department within the School of
Agricultural Technology at Federal Polytechnic Ayede. Led by the pioneer Acting Head of
Department, Mr. Adisa A. Abdullahi, the department is committed to excellence in
agricultural education and research.
As of now, the department comprises thirteen (13) full-time lecturers and two (3)
non-teaching staff members. Upholding firm discipline and integrity, the department
instills in its students a professional code of conduct, expecting them to dress
corporately and comport themselves professionally both inside and outside the classroom,
while adhering to the rules and regulations of the polytechnic.
Program: National Diploma (ND) in Agricultural Technology
Objectives
The National Diploma in Agricultural Technology program is designed to produce
agricultural technicians who are self-reliant, skilled, and capable of adopting modern
techniques in agricultural production. Graduates of this program should be able to:
- Establish agricultural farm enterprises in crop, animal, and fish production.
- Employ modern techniques in apiary, floriculture, micro-livestock (e.g., rabbits,
cane rat, and snailery), quails, and pigeons production.
- Employ modern techniques in the production of animal feeds.
- Assist in processing, storage, and marketing of agricultural produce.
- Assist in pest and disease control.
- Carry out Agricultural Extension services.
- Carry out field survey involving land measurements and field layout.
Entry Requirements
The general entry requirements for the ND in Agricultural Technology program are:
- Five credit-level passes in WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB in not more than two sittings.
- Subjects must include Biology/Agricultural Science, Chemistry, and any three of the
following: Geography, Mathematics, Economics, Technical Drawing, Physics, and
English language. At least a pass in English language and Mathematics is compulsory.
- Candidates who have successfully completed the Board’s recognized pre-National
diploma (Science Technology) course may be admitted into the program, provided they
meet the stipulated criteria.
Program Structure
The National Diploma in Agricultural Technology is a two-year program, comprising four
semesters of classroom, laboratory, field, and workshop activities. Each semester
consists of 17 weeks duration, with 15 contact weeks of teaching and 2 weeks for
examination and registration. Additionally, a three-month Supervised Industrial Work
Experience Scheme (SIWES) is carried out at the end of each year of the program.

research, and community engagement.
Academic Activities
We offer a comprehensive range of academic activities to meet the diverse needs of the
agricultural industry. Our curriculum covers various topics, including crop science,
soil science, animal science, agricultural engineering, and agribusiness management.
Students in our programs benefit from a blend of theoretical knowledge and hands-on
practical experience. They have access to state-of-the-art laboratories, experimental
farms, and modern agricultural equipment to enhance their learning. Additionally, they
participate in fieldwork, internships, and industry visits to gain real-world exposure
and develop valuable skills.
